Northwest CT Nonprofits Raise $567,076  in Northwest Corner Gives gifts and NCCF matches

Nonprofits raised $567,076 through the Northwest CT Community Foundation’s (NCCF) Northwest Corner Gives program. In July, 32 nonprofits posted campaigns to www.northwestcornergives.org, NCCF’s crowdfunding program created to help build awareness and raise matching funds.

Throughout the month of July, individuals and families donated through Northwest Corner Gives. *NCCF fundholders matched those donations dollar-for-dollar up to campaign goals, offering a vital opportunity for community members to support a diverse array of local causes for participating nonprofits and Northwest CT.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Northwest Corner Gives donors, we've not only met but exceeded our goal, reaching 104%,” said Kelly Parker of the Housatonic Youth Service Bureau.

“Your support has made it possible for us to create a new family/group counseling room, where countless lives will be positively impacted. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier community. Thank you!”

Access to Quality Healthcare

Opened in 2024, the Community Health & Wellness Center of Greater Torrington's Regional Healthcare Center in North Canaan provides critical care, including primary care, women's health services, pediatric care, chiropractic care, diabetes management, and behavioral health care for children, teens, and adults regardless of the patient's financial circumstances.

Its school-based health program provides essential medical and mental health services for students at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, North Canaan Elementary, and Sharon Center School.

"The Regional Healthcare Center will be a lifeline for underserved residents struggling to access medical and mental healthcare," said Joanne Borduas of Community Health & Wellness.

A grant from Foundation for Community Health, a Northwest CT Community Foundation supporting organization supported the construction and operations of the North Canaan Health Center.

Grants from the Northwest CT Community Foundation: Robert V. Carr Fund, Robert Venn Carr, Jr. FundEdward W. Diskavich Fund, and the Keroden Endowed Fund enabled the purchase of essential medical equipment for the new Regional Healthcare Center.

"This support will be key in ensuring top-quality medical and behavioral health services for our community by helping us acquire the necessary equipment we need to care for patients," said Joanne.

"We are grateful for NCCF's commitment and support in this critical initiative to improve healthcare access in our rural community."

Entertaining and Enlightening Theatrical Programming

The Warner Theatre is the largest performing arts center in Northwest CT, established in 1931 as an original Warner Brothers Studios movie palace. Today, the Warner Theatre provides year-round theatrical productions: live national touring acts, dance, standup comedy, movie screenings, opera simulcast, high school graduations, community theatre, competitions, an educational program, and special events that enrich the cultural community.

A recent grant from the Northwest CT Community Foundation Borghesi Family Fund provided for the purchase of a wardrobe steam closet for the costume shop. A grant from the Northwest CT Community Foundation Jim & Nancy Garfield Fund provided flexible support to the organization.

"A Wardrobe Steam Closet will allow for steaming on premises which will significantly reduce costs, including staff time and outsourcing of dry-cleaning services especially during high volume programming," said Kayle Crowley of Warner Theatre.
